The chin and cheekbones are the most prominent bone structures of the jaw and the cheeks respectively. They can be modified with the insertion of an implant or moving the chin bone forward or backward (aesthetic osteotomy).

There are several material used for implants, being the most common one, solid silicone. The silicone is sculpted to adapt to each individual and it is placed directly over the person's bone to create a fuller, more balanced look.

Incisions and insertion are through the mouth along the upper or lower lip, in the skin just under the chin area or through the lower eyelid.

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and simultaneously with rhinoplasty.
